Day 30 – The Faith Of A Child

Psalm 8:2 (NIV) Through the praise of children and infants
    you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
    to silence the foe and the avenger.”

It was Sunday, Rod was in the hospital, and the situation was bleak. As his health worsened, I began to wonder if God would not answer our prayers the way we wanted Him to answer. Rod had several visitors that day, one being Susan – the one that was willing to be a living donor.  Later that day, Rod had a visit from a doctor who took measurements as if Rod was being fitted for a suit. Little did we know that these measurements had big implications.

In the evening, Rod was taking a walk in the hallway of the hospital when a nurse asked him what he was doing out of bed. It was then that Rod heard God’s beautiful answer to the many prayers lifted up all over the country by family, friends, and strangers on his behalf. He would have surgery in the morning – on MONDAY morning -just as my mother heard God say. Surgery to remove his diseased liver and transplant a healthy one into his body.

The news came to Rod while I was away from the hospital. I had gone to my parent‘s house for a short time to have dinner. Immediately, Caitlin and I made the drive back to the hospital. As we were riding, the enemy began to do what the enemy does best. He began to whisper in my ear words of fear and doubt. I spoke these words out loud and then I heard the faith of a child. I remember Caitlin telling me “God has brought us this far. He won’t let us down.”

Oh, how I needed to hear those words! Oh, how we all need to hear those words! God is faithful and He is good. Satan is a liar. He wants nothing more than to steal our joy. He wants nothing more for us to doubt God. He wants unbelief to fill our hearts and minds. He wants to suffocate our faith and revive our fear. But Satan would not win this time and it was the faith of a child that defeated him.

Isaiah 40:28-31 (NIV)

“Do you not know? Have you not heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
