The Garden Children’s Bible – A Review

I received The Garden Children’s Bible (Thomas Nelson Bibles, 2023) for free as a member of the Bible Gateway Blogger Grid. At first glance, I was drawn to the vibrant colors of the cover and illustrations on the pages of the Bible. And I noticed how my 2-year-old grandson was instantly interested for the same reason!

At the front of this Bible, there are different pages with Names of God, Miracles of Jesus, and, take note – Kids in the Bible listed! Can you imagine how a child reading the Bible will see themselves in Samuel, David, the children coming to Jesus, etc.?? In addition, there is a table of contents of all the lovely illustrations in this Bible.

Sprinkled throughout are cute characters named Lenny and Lucy, who give easy-to-understand “commentary”and application to the corresponding passages. There are also “cartoon-like” Bible lessons with thoughtful life applications. One of my favorite features of The Garden Children’s Bible is the prayer prompts throughout. It’s never too early to teach a child the importance of prayer as it relates to God’s Word!

The only complaint I have is that God is referenced to as “The Boss.” I don’t particularly care for this reference but do believe it can help a child understand how important obedience is to God, who is the Sovereign Ruler of all people and things.

I would recommend this Bible for young elementary-age children. I can see a parent and child reading God’s Word together and talking about the beautiful illustrations, which can offer many opportunities for teaching!
