The Returning King

Jesus IS Coming Back!

It seems that Christmas comes earlier every year! Shelves are full of Christmas décor in August, and Hallmark movies air in October. Tree lots are green, and presents are wrapped and hidden from peeping eyes before Thanksgiving. With all the hoopla, you can’t miss the announcement; Christmas is coming!

Christmas is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Foretold and prophesied, the King of the World would come humbly, born in an animal stable surrounded by mooing cows and cackling hens.

Undoubtedly, some overlooked and ignored the little infant. No way the crying baby with wet diapers was a king! Too tiny to be proclaimed, too obscure to be respected and worshipped, many failed to heed the announcement that a Savior was born.

The tiny baby would grow to maturity, and many would confess Him as their Savior and Redeemer. He was the one for whom they had been waiting; the baby was Messiah and King!

But, this King would suffer and die and not in the way that kings should. He was nailed to a cross, died a humiliating, sickening death, and was buried in a borrowed tomb. Three days later, the tomb was empty; the Messiah arose and, later, ascended to heaven, where He sat down at the right hand of God, His Father. And there He is today, waiting.

As we prepare with great anticipation for Christmas, we can prepare for our returning King. The announcement has been proclaimed.

Christmas is coming, but our King is coming back!

“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

With all the commotion in the world, don’t miss the announcement. Jesus is coming back in victory! The baby of Christmas is the King of kings who will rule and reign forever. Instead of a cloth diaper, he will wear a royal robe!

The baby of Christmas is the hope for our future. Jesus is the returning King!

As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, we must prepare our hearts for our returning King. The Wedding Supper of the Lamb will replace our Christmas feast, and only those who have believed and trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation are invited. The announcement has been made. The King is coming! Are you ready?

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.  On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

King of kings and Lord of lords.” Revelation 19:11-16

Prayer: Eternal King, as I eagerly anticipate Christmas, help me to focus my heart on you, the King of kings and Lord of lords! Please help me look for your victorious return and rightly prepare my heart.
